Since 1963, when this organization was formally evolved, Boone County Historical Society’s mission has been to preserve our heritage for future generations. In Columbia, we have The Walters Museum which includes history exhibits, offices, meeting space, climate-controlled secure vaults for collection preservation, and a gift shop. Their exhibits frequently change so each time you come in you can learn more about our culture here in Missouri. Starting from the Louisiana Purchase and creation of the state- through the present day, there are always lots of interesting exhibits to see.

In the Montminy Art Gallery, you will find local and regional artists work in all forms.  The gallery is a must-see!  “Meet the Author” is one of the many popular events among the community that BCHS provides.  With so many things to offer, Boone County Historical Society does the most important part of keeping our culture as a state. There are so many events, ways to get involved, and educational visits, it’s perfect for a family day outing, make sure to stop by!
